Le Havre : second french harbor. I've been looking for this encounter for a long time, driven by the elegant cranes, the huge buildings, the colorful containers. Here I am for the first time, on my way home from Mondeville where I photographed a basketball game for the #AllezLesFilles project. Shy at first, I want to keep it slow, getting to know each other from some distance at first... __________ Le Havre, deuxième port français, je souhaite le photographier depuis longtemps, attirée par les grues, les batiments géants, les couleurs des containers, l'odeur des ports. Me voilà pour la première fois, de retour de Mondeville où j'ai photographié un match de basket pour le projet #AllezLesFilles. Timide, j'aborde le port de loin...
Le Havre - The cruise terminal - I love harbors : these places host a zillion activities, factories, unusual buildings, and also are the beginning of travels. Boats and trains are special to me, exhalirating places for me ! __________ Le Havre - terminal des croisières - j'aime les ports : ils fourmillent d'activités, d'usines, de batiments inhabituels, et sont souvent la première étape de voyages. Les bateaux et les trains me font cet effet : des endroits exhaltants !
Harbors are alive : their buildings, their streets are living, constantly evolving. There is chaos and yet one can find order, there is no search for beauty and yet I find these places beautiful... __________ Les ports sont vivants : les bâtiments, les rues sont en vie, en constante évolution. C'est le chaos et pourtant on peut y trouver de l'ordre, il n'y a pas de recherche esthétique et pourtant je trouve ces endroits beaux...
Le Havre's harbor : big, strange, unusual. What are these things for ? Why are they here ? I love to wonder and I love to ask people around me __________ Le port du Havre : immense, étrange, inhabituel. A quoi servent ces choses ? Pourquoi sont-elles échouées là ? J'aime me poser la question, et la poser aux passants autout de moi
Le Havre harbor : work zone. They focus on a task to do, related to the arbor, roads, boats, pipes, who knows ? I focus on lines, colors, light. Then it's nice when we meet and speak about it, learn what's in the other's mind __________ Port du Havre : zone de travail. Ils sont concentrés sur leur job, lié au port, aux routes, bateaux ou canalisation, qui sait ? Je suis concentrée sur les lignes, les couleurs, la lumière. Ensuite, c'est bien de se rencontrer, d'échanger, d'apprendre ce qui préoccupe l'autre

Le Havre harbor : these pipes reminded me of Berlin, and its kms of colored pipes which help drive the water pumped from the ground out of the city. What are these pipes for ? __________ Le port du Havre : ces tuyaux me rappellent les kilomètres de tuyaux colorés qui parcourent Berlin et évacuent l'eau pompée dans le sol de la ville. A quoi servent ces tuyaux-ci ?
Le Havre harbor : when I arrived at the harbor, I stopped at an ornithological reserve. I saw birds I could not name, and signs that Le Havre can be a cold countryside __________ Le port du Havre : en approchant du port, je me suis arrêtée à une réserve ornithologique. Des oiseaux que je ne connais pas... Des signes d'un climat qui peut être rude !

Le Havre harbor : I had not seen cold before this trip to Le Havre this winter. Just felt in love with ice ! __________ Le port du Havre : en mal de froid et de neige cet hiver, je suis tombée en admiration devant ces prés gelés !

Le Havre harbor : sometimes signs averywhere, sometimes no signs anymore. __________ Port du Havre : parfois il y a des signes et panneaux partout, et parfois il n'y en a plus du tout.
Maths : Harbor -> water -> bridges. __________ Mathématiques : Port -> eau -> ponts.
What does lamanage mean ? It relates to actions on boats : to moor, to drop and to haul off. A cooperative company deals with it in Le Havre since 1937. __________ Le lamanage? C'est amarrer, larguer, déhaler. Une société coopérative s'occupe de ces services au Havre depuis 1937.
If you had the scent of fresh paint, you've grasped the feeling of it. __________ Si vous ajoutez l'odeur de peinture fraiche, vous y êtes.
I love the old decorated brick wall of some factories. __________ J'aime les vieux murs en brique décorés de certaines fabriques.
Le Havre : what happened ? Some witness ? __________ Le Havre : que s'est-il passé ? Un témoin ?

Balisage = beaconing, always full of lights and colors. __________ Le balisage, source de lumières et de couleurs.
Le Havre : freezing cold this morning, almost alone in the harbor. __________ Le Havre : matin glacial, je suis presque seule dans les rues du port.
Le Havre : unexplored path... Snow is coming, I've got to head home ! Another time... __________ Le Havre : chemin inexploré. Mais la neige approche, je dois rentrer. Une autre fois !
